Today's new thing

This is Colby's new thing in his bouncy seat and in the stroller. We went on a walk tonight and I had to take a picture. I'm not sure if he likes to pull on the fabric or if he wishes he was wearing shorts... either way it's funny!

Pawpaw and Mimi

This week Pawpaw and Mimi came for a little overnight visit. Colby is a lucky little boy... so many people love him and want to come and see him! And I was really blessed by the great dinner Mimi made and Pawpaw and Rick doing the dishes... a night off for me! Colby was super sweet as usual and got lots of loves.

Fun hanging out with Pawpaw

And Mimi

And of course everybody loves bath time! Colby was really happy and had a great time!

Nana

Colby is so lucky to have wonderful grandparents! His Nana has come to visit him each month but I've only taken one picture each time. I need to do better! So this is a little flashback :)
Nana and Colby at about 2 weeks.

This was his first "smile"... I'm sure it was at her!

On her next visit when Colby was 2 months.

She drives a long way just to see this sweet boy and we are grateful!

Date Night :)

For Valentine's Day my parents gave us a card good for a nice dinner out that came with babysitting! They have been watching Colby on Saturday afternoon so that Rick and I can attend a life group at church. So this weekend we extended the afternoon into the evening and went to a great dinner. I have zero pictures of Rick and I. You can picture it.... we ate and talked like people who hadn't talked in a while. Amazing how much we have to say now! And Colby had a great time with Gran and Grandad.

Grandad is a pro bottle feeder. My favorite part of this is Colby's sweet hand wrapped around my dad's finger.

Cute full boy

I guess Gran was taking the pictures so there aren't any of her! Colby had a great time and so did Rick and I. Thank you Mom and Dad... we are so lucky that you love us the way you do!

Three months!

I'll say it every time... it just keeps getting better! Precious Colby is three months old and does new things every single day. This has been such a fun month full of smiles and cooing. What a joy it is to watch this little boy grow!

New this month:

Colby moved to his crib! This happened sort of accidentally. One Saturday there was someone coming to install new satellite service in our house which meant accessing some things through our bedroom closet. Until then, Colby had been sleeping and napping in his bassinet there. We decided to try his crib for that nap so he would at least have a shot at sleeping. And I was as shocked as anyone when he acted like it was no big deal! So with Rick's encouragement, we just stuck with it. That night he slept like a champ and has been in his crib ever since. It is probably best that I didn't have a chance to mourn his last night in our room. He is getting to be such a big boy!

Colby is getting so much better at tummy time. However, he still would prefer not to be on his tummy... so he learned to roll over!

He continues to love bath time and walks. The play gym is still his favorite toy! He will talk to the hanging things and grab the rings. He also likes sitting in the bumbo. This last weekend he got a new rattle that he is able to hold and rattle.

Sleeping in general continues to improve... and that makes for a happy mommy! We have settled into a better routine. Colby gets up at 7:00 or 7:30 and eats every three hours after that. After he eats at 7:30 in the evening, he takes a bath and goes to bed around 8:30. He usually needs to eat just once in the night, but he also might cry one other time before he's hungry. I just put in his paci and he is usually good to go for a while longer. He is still napping between each feeding, between 45 minutes and 2 hours.

For whatever reason, there isn't a well-visit usually this month. As a sidenote, three months seems a little early for Dr. B to think that we should be trusted with Colby for two months without any check up! So our best guess is:
Height: 24 1/2 inches
Weight: 13 1/2 lbs

Colby is such a complete joy. We are so blessed and can't wait to see what this next month brings!

Happy Birthday Great-Grandmother!

This weekend we celebrated Colby's great-grandmother Wylie's birthday. Although she's pretending it wasn't her birthday... so we'll just say it was a family get-together :) Of course, Missy and Lexy came into town to help us celebrate which basically meant fun chaos!

Great-grandmother and two of her great-grandchildren

Colby and his Aunt Missy

For the first time this weekend, Lexy and Colby actually seemed to see each other. We put them together all of the time, but this time they got face to face and seemed to be pretty happy about it.

Happy Birthday to my sweet grandmother... what a wonderful example she is for us of a faithful woman who loves God and her family. We are blessed to have these special moments with her!

Hope

Where hope would otherwise become hopelessness, it becomes faith. -Robert Brault

Sunday morning was Colby's first trip to church... and nobody was happier to be going than his mommy! We decided to take Colby into church with us because it just so happens to be during his first nap time. He was snoozing away happily when we went in. We found a spot where we could easily escape if he didn't do well. But I was so happy that he was sleeping and I had so missed worship that I was ready! I wish I had my camera ready, because I will never be able to do justice to Colby's expression when the worship leader got up to do the welcome. Literally he was completely asleep, and as soon as the worship leader started talking (with a lot of excitement) Colby's eyes opened as big as saucers and he threw his arms in the air like a touchdown motion. Rick and I were laughing so hard! Needless to say, there was no more sleeping after that. He did just hang out though and we made it through the sermon thanks to Rick rocking and walking and taking him to change a diaper.

I share all of that to say that Sunday was the least focused I have ever been in church... but the time that my heart most purely worshiped with gratitude. For so many Sundays Rick and I sat in that church worshiping with really one desire in our hearts... and wondered if God would ever give us a yes. It was the church I belonged to when God taught me afresh that he loves me fiercely and calls me to hope and faith. Not faith that God will give me what I want or hope that he will say yes to my desire. Faith that my life will matter and have impact. Faith that because God is for me no one can stand against me. It turns out that God said yes to us and gave us sweet Colby. We are so grateful and LOVED having him in those seats with us as we worshiped. We pray that this church will also be the place he worships as he learns that his life matters and how to live life with bold faith. What a privilege I will have to get to watch.

from my phone

Just a few shots from my phone the last couple of weeks :)

First time grabbing a toy on his playmat. He has tried again several times and gets a little frustrated when he can't do it.

He is really getting into his bouncer and thinks those hanging things are hilarious :)

Colby is now a serious drooler!

Hanging out with dad in the evenings... I think it is so funny that he just loves this position but only with Dad.

The two month shots didn't go too badly. That evening Rick took care of Colby and he got a little fussy. Of course the bucket helped!

First time in childcare at church and we survived! Well, of course Colby was well taken care of. There were two babies and two workers, so I'm pretty sure this is what happened the entire morning. I may have shed a tear or two after I dropped him off and might have been the first one to leave the meeting when it was over. Colby did great!
