Toes in the water

Colby took his first dip in the pool... well, just his toes :)  The family that hosts our small group at church has a pool in their backyard.  Their daughter, Sam, is one of Rick's students and is so sweet!  She and her sister Amanda were being so sweet to Colby this week at small group and he was eating it up.
Sam helping C put his toes in
He knows how to win over the pretty ladies!

And this would be Sam holding onto Colby when he tried to dive in face first :)

Always a little love from Daddy
I am pretty sure Colby will be ready for a real swim sooner rather than later!

These days...

Trying out my new car
First taste of cereal

Colby LOVES bath time!

Loving his Macy

Touching toes!

Hanging out with his new friend Doak!

Our friends the Timmermans moved to the Houston area recently and we are so excited! Natalie was my roommate my senior year at Baylor and is one of those friends that always feels like you talk to her everyday. We are so excited to spend more time with her family!

Holding Daddy's thumb

When Colby was sick a few weeks ago... he just wanted to sit and stare :( Sweet boy.

Loves his new stroller and facing forward. He kicks his feet up like this and watches the world go by :)

Practicing sitting and wishing Macy would look at him. She plays hard to get. Who knew they would be the same size so soon?

Five Months!

I have heard a lot of people refer to this time in a baby's life as the easiest... and I think they are right! We are all getting some sleep again and spending our days getting lots of laughs and big wet kisses. How can you want more? I have loved Colby at every stage, but this is the first one that I would freeze time if I could. He is just so loving and happy and sweet.

Colby has started giving me kisses! I think Daddy has gotten a couple too. If I kiss him he will open his mouth and give me a big wet kiss back. So precious.

I'm not sure how long a baby has to sit up for it to officially count, but Colby can definitely sit up on his own. I think the longest has been for a minute or so. I can see him learning to pull himself straight if he starts to go one way or the other. He falls to one side or the other eventually and I think that's his favorite part :)

He also makes all sorts of new noises. The funniest one is a sort of growl that he does at me when he's happy. He squeals and laughs and I don't even think he knows what he's doing sometimes. But he loves to test things out.
Sadly he had his first cold/fever this month. It started with some sneezes and a stuffy nose and then the fever came. Colby wasn't all too bothered by it at all... just something for mommy to stress out about! It was our first trip to the sick side of the pediatrician and luckily she said it was nothing big. The fever came and went for a couple of days and then he was back to himself.

He has found his feet and loves them. I don't think he can get them to his mouth... but he's cute trying!
He is starting to love Macy. When she walks by he reaches out for her. If she gets close enough he will "pet" her which is really almost a pinch. Macy just lets him and then walks away if he does it too much. Such a sweet girl.

I haven't recorded our usual activities and I want to remember. This will be boring but it is our life right now. On Mondays we usually go to the grocery store and run errands. On Thursdays we go to story/song time at the library. Some Fridays we have MOPS in the morning and we always go to dinner with Gran and Grandad, soon Colby too will be enjoying some mexican food! On Saturday Rick and I go to life group and Colby stays with Gran and Grandad. Sunday is church. Throw in a few playdates or lunches and we stay busy! Colby loves going to the library the best. He talks through all of the songs and then just watches all of the other babies and laughs.

Colby is still nursing like a champ and for that I'm grateful. We tried some cereal this month and really he could take it or leave it. We started with rice and now we're trying oatmeal. He does take it in and swallow it, then he just looks at me like I'm crazy. We usually try once every day or every other day. I think we will soon try out some other foods and see if he likes them better. He isn't as great at taking a bottle as he used to be, but he still does it once or twice a week. He will only drink 3 or 4 oz from the bottle but that seems to get him by until I am back.
He continues to sleep well at night! He is in bed at 8, wakes around 4 or 5 to eat and then sleeps again until 7 or 8. We were also able to straighten out our naps and that makes everyone happier! He is taking 3 naps a day. He still sometimes needs help at the 45 minute mark but is able to go back to sleep. I am SO happy to have that improved... he is so much happier after a snooze. As of this weekend we are done with the swaddle. I know most babies don't use it this long, but he never complained! I only decided to wean him from it when he started moving crazy around the crib and I was afraid he would get tangled.

No doctor's appointment this month, so I will guess at his stats.

Height: 25 1/2 inches
Weight: 17 1/2 pounds

I say every month that Colby is so sweet. This month I am learning that he is funny and fun too. So many times I tell him that he is a fun kid to hang out with all day. I love watching him enjoy things and get excited. We are so grateful for the sweet gift that Colby is!

David

Colby's first name is a name that Rick and I both love and that is really the only reason that we picked it. Since we are both teachers, there are lots of names that are ruled out because one of us had a child with that name that wasn't our favorite student! Colby's middle name, David, is my dad's name. Before we even knew we were having a son, I knew that if we did I would want him to have a part of my dad's name. My parents are both incredible people. My dad is kind, generous, loyal, fair, hard-working, loving, a gentleman, intelligent, a great husband (from a daughter's perspective), and an amazing dad. All of these things are things I pray for Colby to become.

In the last couple of weeks we've also started to see some physical resemblance between these two. Here is a picture of my dad as a little boy and one of Colby to compare:

I am so proud to have my little Colby David have such a wonderful David to look up to in his Grandad. One day Colby will be too. He certainly already loves his Grandad.

Happy Easter!

He is risen! We had a great Easter day celebrating Jesus with our family. Sweet Colby got some presents to start off the day.
After church we enjoyed a wonderful lunch at great-grandmother's house with our family. We need to remember our tri-pod so that Daddy can be in the pictures.... I promise he and Uncle Royce are there!
Colby hung out with Grandad and Aunt Shirley

And of course had to have his picture taken with Cousin Lexy

This boy was sweet all day and then took a good long nap. What a love.

Praise God that He gives us life... and abundant life!

Texas Bluebonnets

The bluebonnets were out on our trip to Austin and we couldn't resist some pictures. They are beautiful this year!

Happy Birthday Great-Grandmother!

Colby is so lucky to have two great-grandmothers! This weekend we celebrated his great-grandmother Turner's 85th birthday in Austin and he had so much fun. We had a great lunch and cake, played with cousins, and played dominoes. Colby was rocked and loved on by everyone and had so much fun playing with his cousins. Colby is the first grandson and his great-grandmother is so proud of him!

Great-grandmother and Colby... he sure has grown from their last visit!

Happy boy

Addysen entertained Colby a lot

Colby brought home his first Easter basket... you can see he was excited about it!

Happy Birthday Great-grandmother... we love you!
