Happy Birthday Mommy!

Colby and I spent the morning at the zoo for my birthday!  I had to work that evening but when I got home he and Rick had a yummy cookie cake for me.  Such a sweet day!

First day of MDO

This year Colby had his first first day of school!  He is going to MDO each Friday.  Of course mommy has been stressed about it for a while so we did all we could to get ready!
Practice on our new nap mat
The teachers asked for a poster of family pictures
On our first morning Colby was ready to go.  I really don't know how all of the moms get those cute first day pictures!  My little man was in no mood to casually hang out by the front door.
Let's hit the road, mom
When we got to the classroom we played a little together and then I made a getaway.  I'll go ahead and be honest and say I had to leave before I started to tear up!

Colby and I both shed some tears when I left the first time.  I got a call about an hour later from the school though letting me know he was doing great.  His teachers, Ms. Flo and Ms. Nancy have been teaching this class for something like 20 years, so I know he is in great hands.

I was so happy to go pick up my sweet boy and I think he was happy to see me too!
My favorite things that come home from school each week are the artwork and the little report about his day.  So precious.

For the first couple of times, Colby didn't take a nap at school but laid down on his mat when he was told.  Since then however he has become a good napper there which is such a relief!  It absolutely exhausts him though so most Friday evenings are pretty laid back at our house.  I'm so grateful to have found this sweet pre-school where I know he is well taken care of and loved.

Happy Birthday Daddy!

We celebrated Rick's birthday with both of our sisters and all four of our nieces... and banana pudding!

The desert was followed by what has become a traditional session of cousins jumping on the air mattress before bed.  Then later that weekend we were excited to have a visit from the Parkers and to meet their sweet Emmie.  What a love!  You can see the birthday guy hogged the baby ;)

Summer School Stinks

We have one hard working dad in this house.  Since the summer I was pregnant with Colby, Rick has been teaching summer school each summer.  And since he has started his master's degree work, he also took two of his own summer school classes.  He completed both of those successfully and we had our first family movie night to celebrate!  Colby liked the movie (Cars) but he loved the air mattress even more.  Not exactly what I had envisioned but he definitely had fun!

Pool Time

This summer included so many fun trips to the pool!  We had a Friday night tradition of pool and pizza with the Maas family, Aunt Missy and Lexy.  Sometimes Colby and I would go by ourselves or with friends during the week.  Sometimes Colby loved it.  Sometimes he preferred to explore every bush and hiding place that was around the pool rather than the water itself.  But we cooled off and had fun!
